He Sent His Word to Heal
He Sent His Word to Heal
“He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.”
Psalm 107:20 (ESV)
As we think about the power of God’s Word, it’s easy to focus on guidance, wisdom, or instruction. But Scripture reminds us of something just as important: God’s Word has the power to heal.
Words carry weight. They can wound, tear down, and leave lasting marks. But they can also restore, rebuild, and bring life. Proverbs tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue — a reminder that what is spoken and what is heard truly matters.
The way we speak to others matters.
The way we speak to our children matters.
Even the environments we create with our words matter.
That idea became real to me through a simple, unexpected experience.
At our home in South Carolina, one of the palm trees in our yard nearly died after a severe freeze. For a long time, there was no visible sign of life. But instead of giving up, I kept watering it, added some Miracle-Gro, and yes — I spoke to it. Out loud. I declared life over it and believed it could grow again.
Eventually, a small green shoot appeared in the center. Not long after, the tree came back strong and healthy. It lived. It thrived.
Was it the water? Maybe.
Was it the fertilizer? Maybe.
Were words part of it? Possibly.
Here’s the takeaway: what we hear shapes us. Filling our lives with God’s Word positions our minds, hearts, and souls for renewal and healing. If human words can leave such a deep impact, how much more powerful are the words of God?
Sometimes, growth isn’t immediate. Sometimes, change is happening beneath the surface before anything visible appears. But God’s Word is working — bringing healing to our lives, one moment at a time.
