The Bible Diet
Man Doesn't Live by Bread Alone
There’s some encouraging news: more people are reading the Bible today than they were a decade ago.(1) Many Christians now say they engage with Scripture weekly, and that’s a step in the right direction.
But here’s the deeper question—is weekly enough?
Jesus once said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” In other words, God’s Word isn’t a supplement to life—it’s essential nourishment.
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He included the phrase, “Give us this day our daily bread.” While that certainly speaks to our physical needs, it may also point to something spiritual. Just as our bodies need food every day, our souls need God’s Word every day.
Spiritual growth doesn’t happen accidentally. It happens through consistent intake. The Bible shapes how we think, how we choose, and how we respond to the world around us.
Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly being influenced—through media, music, news, and culture. Messages are being preached to us daily about what matters, what to chase, and how to live and the preachers aren't in pulpits. These preachers are influencers, movie produces, and marketing strategists. Without a clear standard, it’s easy to drift.
That’s where the Bilbe comes in.
God’s Word becomes a measuring stick. It helps us discern truth from noise, wisdom from distraction, and purpose from pressure. Daily time in Scripture strengthens us against false ideas, unhealthy patterns, and shallow perspectives.
Church attendance matters. Community matters. And a personal relationship with God—built through His Word—is essential.
Why? Because God’s Word isn’t just information. It’s His voice to us.
His Word is His voice. His Word reveals His ways. His Word expresses who He is.
The first verse of John’s Gospel says it plainly: Jesus is the Word. And knowing His Word is deeply connected to knowing Him.
What we feed on determines how we live. And God’s Word was never meant to be an occasional snack—it was meant to be our daily bread. And if we don't know His Word, do we really know Him?
