How To Truly Know Yourself
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Why is it important to know the Word? Because when you know the Word, you know yourself.
Hebrews reveals something powerful about God’s Word. As a sword, it cuts and divides the soul and the spirit. It exposes the true source behind our thoughts and belief systems. Not every thought that crosses our mind is from God. Some influences come from the Spirit of God. Some are prompted elsewhere. Yes, the enemy works to sway our thoughts and decisions. But sometimes the battle is not external. Sometimes it is internal.
There is a war against our own soul. The soul consists of the mind, the will, and the emotions. If left unchecked, they can push us toward dangerous outcomes. Our own heart can lead us astray. That is why the popular phrase, “Trust your heart,” can be misleading. Scripture tells us clearly that the heart is deceitful and desperately sick. It is not always trustworthy.
Only God and His Word can reveal the true motivations of the heart. Only His Word can divide what is soul and what is spirit. That is why daily time with God matters. When you consistently spend time in Scripture, you begin to recognize what is from Him and what is not.
When you know the Word, you know yourself.
It reveals. It exposes. It guides. It heals. It saves.
A daily diet of God’s living Word protects you from yourself and from the deceptions of the enemy. It may feel repetitive at times. It may feel quiet. But it is your life source. It is your secret weapon. It is the key to living life to the full and walking in freedom.
Stand strong. Stay consistent. Don’t give up.
