The Side of Grace No One Talks About

January 24, 20263 min read

If you want to be great in life, you need to learn this:

1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

Romans 8:37 (ESV)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

John 14:12–14 (ESV)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Grace is often seen as a resource we rely on when life gets hard. We need grace when we’ve failed. We need grace when we’re hurting. We need grace when we feel weak or lacking. Most of us think of grace as something we reach for in moments of trouble — like a safety net that catches us when we fall.

But there is another side of grace that we often overlook. Grace is not only meant to rescue us. Grace is also meant to empower us. Peter reveals a powerful truth: grace is something we are called to steward. In other words, grace is not just something we receive — it is something we are meant to manage.

God did not create humanity to live broken, defeated, and barely surviving. He created us to live fully, to walk in purpose, and to reflect His glory in the earth. But when we experience setback after setback and disappointment after disappointment, it can quietly shape our expectations. We start believing that struggle is normal, that lack is permanent, that greatness is for other people. And that mindset is dangerous.

When we embrace failure, poverty, or shame as identity instead of circumstance, we begin to sabotage our own destiny. We start living below what God designed us for. Grace was never meant to just help us survive our pain. Grace was given to help us fulfill our purpose.

Grace frees us from sin, yes. Grace sustains us through dark seasons, yes. But grace also empowers us to step into our God-given calling. Grace unlocks the divine potential our Creator placed inside of us. Grace activates gifts. Grace fuels service. Grace positions us to live a life that makes an impact.

Peter says we are “stewards of God’s varied grace.” That means grace is something entrusted to us. Something to be managed. Something to be expressed through how we live, serve, and love others. When we learn to steward grace, we begin to thrive in our gifting. We begin to operate in alignment with God’s design for our lives.

Grace in action is embracing the fullness of life as God intended. It’s not just about being forgiven — it’s about being empowered. That’s why grace-ness is the key to greatness.

You were created for greatness. Not arrogance. Not self-glory. But greatness that reflects God. When you understand who you are, whose you are, and the advantage of the always-available resource of grace, you will begin to do great works for His glory.

Grace works are great works.
